Well this past weekend 3 buddies and I headed up to MA to target common eiders and we had a blast. Weather was cold and the birds are tough as nails. We ended up taking several beautiful birds and had an all around great trip. Good times with good friends. To top it off we shot not one but 2 banded eiders. The drake was first and he was an old bird. Banded in 2007 in Nova Scotia he was a great bird and what a hunt to remember. Not to be out done the next day we shoot a double banded hen. She was banded in 2007 and was banded in Quebec. Very cool and trophies to remember forever. Cannot believe how tough these birds are to kill. If you knock them down you better stone them or the chase is on. Great hunt.

Beautiful birds, thanks for posting and sharing.

T shot is the only way to go. I’ve never hunted eiders but sea ducks a plenty.

You either miss em or stone em with T shot

No outfitter just bought some decoys and freelanced it.. Last year we had success and learned a few things this year we applied what we learned and had a better more enjoyable hunt.

Andy, how are the eiders as table fare? Personally I can not eat scoters or long tails so quit shooting them for that reason. Beautiful eiders.

Not much to eat is my experience. Pretty strong smelling when they are freshly dead. We gave some away to some taxidermists and the fellas took the rest for their mounts. I am not much on sea ducks either. Pretty strong flavor to me.
