Has anyone gone elk hunting this year?  I got an email from Chuck Rieve, former GM of Bass Pro Shops in Arundel Mills.  He killed a beautiful 6x6 in Colorado last week with his bow.  The weather has been perfect this year.  The former CEO of Harley Davidson shot a 400+ inch bull South of Denver with his muzzleloader, could be the new state record.  DC

I was out opening week in Colorado and hit a great 6x6 in the shoulder and of course no penetration  If that wasn't bad enough, I shot a 5x5 the next day and thought it was a good hit but never found him.  The area was so thick you could walk past one by 30 feet and never see him.
Naildriver, what area of White national forest are you hunting?  I was hunting the White close to Rifle.

Just got back from 17 days in Montana. was about an hour northeast of Missoula. Passed on smaller bulls, untill day 13. Shot this bull at 29 yards, He went all of 10 yards stood there, wobbled a bit and was down.  Not a hammer by any means, but this is my first elk ever. I have hunted the past three season out there, straight DIY style hunting on Public Lands. Doubled lunged him and the my 100gr. Muzzy Carbon Express Maxima blew clean threw him and is still in perfect condition, even after putting it on the roller, it is perfect.

I got back from Colorado last wednesday.  had an awesome trip, saw devils tower, rushmore and crazy horse mt.  also saw hundreds of antelope, deer, turkeys, cockbirds, shot a pile of prairie dogs, drank a battleship load of whiskey and capped the trip with a 500 pound cow elk on opening morning!
Hunted 26 mile north of Meeker.

Just got back Monday morning from Montana. We went 7 for 7 with everything being a 5x5 or better. Top two bulls scored 364 and 321. It was definitely the hunt of a lifetime for most of us. We hunted with Bill Montanye of Elk Range Outfitters out of Helena. It was my second time hunting with him (first was with a bow two years ago) and I'd go back in a minute. Let me know if you ever want to talk with him and I'll hook you up.

I went on a bow hunt with Bill two years ago and that cost $3250. I booked this gun hunt with him before we left and it was $5000 at that time. I think it's gone up another $500 since then. The best thing about this particular area is the quality of the bulls and the potential to take a 350 or better class bull. There's not many places you can do that for around $5000.
