I let my oldest daughter use my commuter car to travel from UMD to Rutgers a couple weeks back as I thought it would be better than riding her jeep up there thinking it is better on gas, less likely to break in the little car versus her soft top jeep.  we thought all went well till I get a letter from NJ Ezpass advising me that she picked up 3 violations for $10.50 in tolls and admin fees of $130.  the interesting thing is the Ezpass worked just fine in Maryland going up and back and the account is auto funded so what gives.  in talking to some folks this appears to be a routine issue with NJ attempting to  rip people off even though they have an ezpass and it is supposed to  work in NJ as well.  after 30 plus minutes on the phone with Maryland and NJ I was told NJ would issue payments for tolls against my ezpass and refund the fees.  Heard horror stories on the internet about NJ not doing what they are supposed to do and folks racking up incremental fees.  we shall see if they do  the right thing as they said in 7 to 10 days.  would live to have a local news company drive through recording the thing and expose them for their corruption.  this is total BS.  Beware when driving through that chit hole of a state!

Ha! Same thing happened to me in DE! I got a huge bill, sent them proof on having an Ezpass account, even showed where I had been charged in MD just prior...

It ended up going to collections, so I wrote a nasty letter CC’ing Andy Harris, reporters for local papers and DE papers. I included copies of my appeal and submitted verification paperwork etc etc...

Its been 6-7mo’s and i never got another collection notice? Dunno if it went away or not, dont know how to check.

Going to NJ twice & MD in the last year my EZ-PASS was replenished twice 50.00.
I'm now going over the bridge again and will look at my bill and bytch.
Doesn't seem possible to be charged 11.50 twice to go over DMB.

I got hit the same way.  My ezpass was dying and I didnt realize it until i hit the GSP and started getting "toll not paid" on the boards.  I provided my ezpass account and they charged the tolls.  I didnt have to pay the admin fees.

Check your credit card on file with EZPass.  Your card may expire and renew, but if you have the old expiration date on file, they'll treat it like an expired card that still requires payment.

Happens pretty often, in NJ and other.states. Just send in the toll amount with proof of ezpass and it is all good.
